Clare Parker, Director of Group Surveying at Innovus, writing in Property Week (4 June 2025)

Surveying plays a central role in shaping the built environment, but the profession is facing a growing skills gap. In a recent article for Property Week, Clare Parker shares her perspective on how the sector can respond and what employers can do to help attract and retain talent.

She highlights several areas for action:

  • Bringing in new talent by making the profession more visible and accessible to a wider range of people, including career changers and under-represented groups.

  • Changing perceptions of surveying by showing the breadth of roles available, from data analysis to project management.

  • Supporting progression, particularly through structured training, financial support and mentoring for those working toward RICS accreditation.

  • Adopting technology such as AI, drone surveys and smart building tools, while recognising the continuing value of hands-on experience and judgement.

  • Creating inclusive workplaces where people feel supported, respected and able to build long-term careers.

At Innovus, these priorities are already shaping how we support our surveying teams. Clare’s piece outlines how investment in people and innovation can help move the profession forward.
