Meet Dan Butt, our Director of Surveying

11 March 2024 | Written by Beverley Kloos

Tell us a little about your background

I founded my own chartered surveying company back in 1999. Over the decades I grew the business into a regional firm with a team of five surveyors, specialising in residential surveys and valuations, party walls, property management, and design and project work. I sold the business as I wanted to really focus on growth and that’s when I joined Innovus as Director of Surveying in November 2023.

What is your business area responsible for?
We have a multi-disciplinary approach, which includes residential surveying and valuations, probate and accounting valuations, and party wall and lease enfranchisement guidance. We also have a large department providing project management and surveying services for the UK’s largest property management company.

How does your business area bring added value for clients and customers?

It has to be our considerable combined years of experience and knowledge, meaning we can provide a full professional consultancy service and offer clients and customers proven specialist property advice and guidance.

How do you see the regulatory landscape of the property sector changing?

Leasehold reform will have a significant impact. For example, with leasehold extensions, valuations, and enfranchisements. I am also closely working with our in-house building safety experts to effectively navigate the evolving legislation concerning fire safety and buildings over 18 meters high.

What makes Innovus unique?

We have an incredibly strong management team, which works collaboratively. I’ve always had the view that the property industry works best in a group environment, and this translates to how we work here at Innovus. It’s also feels great to be a part of a company that is ambitious for major growth and having the opportunity to support this is a challenge I’m really looking forward to. There are real internal and external opportunities for organic growth within the organisation.

What has been your proudest achievement?

Apart from my three children (who all make me incredibly proud), it has to be building my own successful business from scratch.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I am an avid rugby fan. I coach at Wimborne Rugby Club and referee throughout Dorset and Wiltshire. My son plays professionally for Bath, so I often go along to watch him as well.
