We’re passionate about seeing our people progress in their careers and actively encourage their personal development.

Connor West joined us as a business apprentice in 2018 after leaving University. Since then, he has attained a level 2 business qualification and AAT levels 2 and 3.

Q: When and why did you join the apprentice scheme?

I joined as a business apprentice in 2018 after I left University. At Uni, I initially was looking at learning law, but found I really enjoyed the economic and finance parts of my business diploma. I strongly believed that joining an apprenticeship scheme would provide vital workplace experience, plus a formal qualification to further my career.

Q: How has your career progressed?

I was recruited into the accounts payable team where I was coached to effectively carry out tasks including payment runs, bank reconciliation queries, supplier statements, and internal imports. I then began working on our corporate ledger where I was able to suggest process improvements. I was promoted to senior accounts payable administrator in 2023 – and also nominated in our annual company awards for my efforts in the team and wider business!

Q: What qualifications have you gained?

My apprenticeship enabled me to gain a level 2 business qualification. I have also achieved AAT levels 2 and 3. I’m now aiming for a leadership qualification and also AAT level 4 in the future.

Q: How do you feel the scheme has helped your career development?

It’s really helped to further my business knowledge and enhance my grasp within the finance world on how to improve internal functions and address issues effectively.

Q: How do you feel the company has supported you?

Since the start of my apprenticeship, the people in the business have been a constant source of support and value, which has enabled me to develop the way I have.
